Mountain stream fishing Part1

Dear Brothers,

There are many high mountains in Japan.
Across the mountains, many clean and beautiful streams run.
Japan is surrounded by sea.
The sea makes plenty of steam and the steam hits mountains.
And then it makes much rain.
So Japan is the wealthy water land.

One of my hobbies is "Mountain stream fishing".
I don't know this kind of fishing is popular in foreign countries or not.
However, in Japan, this makes one category of river fishing.

Japanese mountain stream has many kinds of fishes even narrow and short water area.
Seema, Charr, Sweetfish and so on.
The taste of these fishes is very good.
A few decades ago, there had been Mountain stream fishermen who earned their bread by stream fishing only.
And not only the taste but also a technique of fishing, these fishes are very interesting.

I'm still a beginner of this fishing, just started a few years ago.
I don't have enough skill yet, so that sometimes I come back home without any fishes.
At that time, my wife says ironically that "Thank you for your today's work"...

However, actually, Mountain stream fishing is difficult.

Someone who has good experience might have different result even at the same fishing spot.
Yesterday was different from today.
Tomorrow will be different from today.

It depends on the condition and the condition is changing all of the time.
The weather, the temperature of air and/or water, the dawn or the dusk and so on.
Besides, what kind of gear he selected effects directly the fishing result.

These differences makes him lucky or unlucky.
That's Mountain stream fishing, this fishing is very profound.

If I could convey the fun of this fishing to you on this page, it's sincerely my pleasure.

The up streams are the fishing spot.
It is surrounded by mountains and there are many trees and woods near the river.
However, all of the upstream of every river is not a good fishing spot.
In some up streams we can get a good fishing result, but in some others we can not.
What is the difference of between these?

1. Nutrient elements
At the rich nutrient elements river, there are many creatures as fish's feed.
It's aquatic insects or water bugs.
Of course, if there are many creatures in the river, the fishes in the river can get much feed.
That's river is surrounded by broad-leaf trees than needle-leaved trees.
Many fallen leaves make good soil.
And the rich soil affects the life condition of creatures.

2. Discharge fishes activity
The river is controlled by fishing cooperatives these days.
Each fishing cooperative discharges fishes, young fishes and fish eggs in their river.
Destruction of environment and too much fishing shrinks fish population in fact.
To avoid more declining the population, fishing cooperatives keep an ecological system in river by discharging.
And fishermen should pay around 1,000 yen per day or several thousands yen per year to get a fishing license.
Some part of the payment is used for the fishing cooperative discharge activity.

3. Fishing ban season
The fishing cooperative decides a fishing ban season.
It depends on the river to river.
Mainly, from October to February, it is a fishing ban season.
During the ban season, fishes lay eggs under the river sand and fishing cooperative buries it.
This means that in some well controlled rivers by human we can get good fishing results.

<Fishing spot>
When you start fishing at a good stream, can you get fishes immediately?
Even at a good stream, the answer is NO.
Fishes don't exist on everywhere in river.
Mountain stream fishes like some specific spot.
So where is it? Please imagine... if you were a fish, where is the best position to live..?

1. Deep pool

The water flow is slow here.
It is not necessary to spend their energy and the bottom is easy to hide.
The water temperature is stable rather than other area.
It is one of the best positions to live for fishes.

2.Rapid

The water flow is fast, it is a little difficult to stay for a long time.
However, many feed, aquatic insects or water bugs, are flown in rapid.
Please gaze at the rapid.
You realize some slow flow between the rapid, especially behind or in front of a big sinking rock.
It is the best point for hungry fishes to catch flowing feed.

3.Basin

Just after the water falling point, it is not suitable to stay.
However, a little distance from the point, the flow is slower and the bath is deep.
Flowing insects fall into the bottom of bath, easy to catch for them.

4.Under trees

It is a good position to hide from big birds.
And sometimes they can get some falling insects.

Basically, mountain stream fishes like the bottom of river.
They are very timid and nervous.
They can get some distance from their predators, human beings or big birds to live in the bottom of river.

We have to consider such tendency of their character to get a good fishing result.
